SERVICEQUIP

As you are aware there are a number of statutory tests which must be carried out on your equipment and ServiceQuip will carry out these tests and provide you with the necessary certification required. In addition HIQA require that you fully comply with the content of The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, SI 299, 2007 and it is a requirement of this legislation that all equipment used in your nursing home is safe for use by residents and staff.

HOIST TESTS

The first set of tests concerns your hoists. As these hoists are used to lift old and frail residents in a number of situations, it is absolutely critical that you are fully confident in the safety of the lifting equipment. To this end we will carry out a twice yearly LOLER Test. This test involves using specialised testing equipment and is carried out to an ISO specification.

The Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) are a set of regulations that require your hoist is tested under specified conditions to ensure it is capable of lifting and lowering your residents in a safe and secure manner.

ELECTRIC SAFETY TEST

In addition to the LOLER test we will carry out a PAT (Portable Appliance Test) on your beds, hoists, assisted baths and all equipment used in the care of your residents. In safety testing, the bottom line is human life. Portable-appliance testing, is not only a legal requirement but it can also form a part of an organization’s maintenance plan, allowing the  provider to see which products fail and helping make decisions on replacement or repair. It is also useful in any legal disputes arising from accidents.

With a well documented testing system, an organization can prove that it did everything in its power to provide safe, usable equipment for its staff and visitors.

It is a legal requirement under The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, SI 299, 2007 that all Nursing Home providers (employers) must maintain portable equipment in a way that is safe and fit for use. In addition to the testing, we will affix a sticker to the electrical apparatus certifying its suitability for use or otherwise.

You will be provided with full test results, certification and a report of any defects found during the inspection and test.
